BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES LECTURER

UNH is the state’s flagship public research university and, as such, it provides comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs of distinction. Its key purpose is education: students collaborate with faculty in teaching, research, creative expression, and service. Our 15,000 graduate and undergraduate students are served by a full-time faculty of about 600, offering 90 undergraduate and more than 70 graduate programs. The Department of Biological Sciences has 24 faculty, 500 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate students and postdocs. Summary of Position

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer with an expected start date of 21 August 2020. The position is a full-time (0.88 FTE, academic year – nine month) teaching position for a three-year, renewable term. Renewal of the position after the initial three-year period may be possible at the discretion of the college. An appointment for a lecturer position includes the full benefits package of the University for non-tenure-track faculty. Lecturers at UNH are represented by the AAUP through a collective bargaining agreement.

The candidate will be responsible for teaching five units (typically 20 credit hours) per year, including one semester of Evolution, two semesters of General Ecology, and additional courses based on departmental need and the candidate’s area of expertise. In addition to teaching, lecturers are expected to advise undergraduate students; contribute to course, curriculum, and program development; participate in service activities at multiple levels; and engage in activities to stay current in their discipline.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in an area of the Biological Sciences relevant to ecology and evolution and will have experience teaching at the college level. Priority will be given to candidates who can demonstrate their ability to engage undergraduate’s evidence-based pedagogical techniques, particularly those invoking active learning. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in hybrid/online teaching. Applicants with more than 6 years of college teaching experience may be considered for Senior Lecturer status. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the classroom.
