Ecologist

The Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University invites applications for a faculty position in Restoration Ecology. This is one of four areas of interest for two tenure-track Assistant Professorships that NSOE plans to fill in the natural sciences. We seek an outstanding and visionary candidate whose work integrates ecological theory with the practice of restoration by: 1)generalizing across multiple ecosystem types, 2) evaluating outcomes at landscape scales, and/or 3) connecting multiple levels of ecological organization. Candidates may have expertise in any ecosystem (freshwater, marine, wetland, or terrestrial) and area(s) of restoration ecology including, but not limited to, population/conservation genetics, population biology, community ecology, ecosystem ecology, ecological engineering, landscape ecology, and socio-ecological dynamics. The ideal candidate will be poised to deliver theory-informed solutions that integrate engineered and natural systems to speed ecosystem recovery and extent in the face of changing social, economic and environmental conditions. Successful candidates are expected to develop an externally funded and nationally recognized research program, teach and mentor undergraduate, professional and graduate students, and engage in service within NSOE, the University, and in the broader scientific community. Successful candidates are also expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, respect and excellence.
