Canyon Project Coordinator (Full-Time, Temporary)
The San Diego Natural History Museum is embarking on an exciting initiative to engage communities in the science and conservation of San Diego’s urban and suburban coastal canyons. This position will be critical to the oversight and implementation of these efforts.
Major Responsibilities
- Act as project coordinator, track project timelines, ensure the development of deliverables, and monitor project budget.
- Coordinate with other staff to identify and engage with community groups as potential collaborative partners in canyon research, outreach, and programming.
- Assist museum researchers and stakeholders in developing a pilot of (a) hypothesis-driven community science project(s) associated with San Diego’s urban canyon landscapes. Engage community and act as facilitative interpretive naturalist.
- Develop and conduct trainings and outreach efforts (in-person and remotely) for community science efforts related to canyon research and initiatives.
- Document and report on canyon project progress, statistics and best practices for community science.
Qualifications
- Academic or personal experience in ecology and/or conservation biology, while a M.S. in biological sciences or science communication is preferred, we encourage candidates with equivalent life experience that demonstrates an ability to research and independently implement projects to apply.
- Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, and project management experience with demonstrated attention to detail.
- English proficient and Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
