The Department of Biology at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in aquatic ecology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall semester 2022. The successful candidate will join a biology faculty committed to innovative teaching in a liberal-arts setting and involvement of undergraduate students in research. The candidate is expected to develop a productive research program in aquatic ecology. The individual hired will teach in a team-taught foundations course called Evolution, Ecology, and Diversity, elective courses in ecology, and a research tutorial in their area of interest. Opportunities also exist to develop or lead off-campus study programs. The successful candidate will contribute to programs outside of the biology department, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum and the Environmental Studies Program. Completion of Ph.D. prior to or shortly after the date of hire is required, and some teaching experience is expected. An application with cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate transcripts, statements of teaching philosophy, research, and diversity, and a list of names of individuals who would be prepared to submit reference letters at a later date can be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19469. Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. Candidates should describe in their diversity statement how their teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or community service might support the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Review of applications will begin October 11 and continue until the position is filled. Colgate is a vibrant liberal arts university of 3200 undergraduate students situated in central New York state. The Department of Biology serves a diverse student body and is committed to excellence in both teaching and research.
