Ecosystem Modeling Postdocs
Are you looking for opportunities to grow your ecosystem modeling skills while answering pressing questions about climate impacts on fires, vegetation dynamics and crops? The Earth and Environmental Sciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory has immediate openings for two postdoctoral research associates with experience in fire, vegetation or crop modeling. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary modeling and observational team to assess the impact of climate change on fire behavior, vegetation dynamics, and crop production. You will contribute to collaborative projects with a focus on shared outcomes, publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present your work at professional conferences. The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability.
- PhD in a STEM field; for a postdoctoral appointment the candidate must have completed all PhD requirements by commencement of the appointment and must be within 5 years of completion of the PhD
- Research experience in the earth sciences
- Record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Communication skills as evidenced by publications and oral presentations at conferences
- Experience programming in either Python, R, Fortran, Matlab or a similar language
- Experience with vegetation, fire or crop modeling
- Experience with high-performance computing
