DEPARTMENT of BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
The Department of Biological Sciences at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for the position of Global Change Biology, appointment effective fall semester 2022.
The Biological Sciences Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in Global Change Biology, beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. The area of specialty is open, but candidates who address large-scale questions and who specialize in computational, modeling, or data-mining approaches are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a related science discipline and post-doctoral experience are required. Previous teaching experience is highly preferred. The successful candidate will have the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, for developing an externally-funded research program that will involve undergraduate and Master's students, and for collaborating with faculty in a diverse set of fields, including ecotoxicology, marine conservation, remote sensing, and restoration. Teaching responsibilities may include ecology, global change biology, or introductory biology courses, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses related to the candidate’s area of specialty, such as ecoinformatics, landscape ecology, remote sensing, or GIS. The applicant will be expected to assist in curriculum development, advise students, serve on department, college, and university committees, and engage in professional activities. Cal Poly Pomona is a comprehensive Master’s university with a diverse student body. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to be responsive to the educational equity goals of the University and its increasing ethnic diversity and international character. Applicants should submit (1) cover letter that describes how the candidate’s teaching and research experience have prepared the applicant to meet the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description; (2) up to 2 page Student Success Statement that demonstrates your commitment and record of contributions through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service, by addressing at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed in the full position description; (3) curriculum vitae; (4) 2-page statement of teaching philosophy, including how you apply a learn-by-doing philosophy; (5) 2-page max research statement, including proposed plan of research and how you would involve undergraduate and Master’s students; (6) three representative publication reprints; (7) contact information for three references; and (8) completed University application form. Please note that the student success statement will play a critical role in selecting candidates. Review of applications begins on December 10, 2021. Full position description and application procedure: http://www.cpp.edu/~faculty-affairs/open-positions/.
Please direct inquiries, nominations, and applications (electronic only) to Dr. Jayson Smith (jaysonsmith@cpp.edu) or Dr. Peter Arensburger (parensburger@cpp.edu), co-chairs of the Global Change Biology Search Committee. Three letters of reference will be required of all semifinalists; an official academic transcript indicating the highest degree earned is necessary for employment. Consideration of completed applications will begin on December 10, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. For expanded position description and application information, please go to http://apply.interfolio.com/97897.
