Frontiers of Science is a one-semester course that integrates modern science into the Core Curriculum of Columbia College in order to introduce exciting scientific ideas and inculcate scientific habits of mind. The program invites applications for positions at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline for the academic year 2022-2023.

We invite applications from qualified candidates with at least five years of experience teaching general science, multi-disciplinary courses to both science and non-science students. The successful candidates will hold the rank of Lecturer in Discipline in an appropriate natural science department and teach two seminar sections (up to 22 students each) each semester. In addition, they attend the weekly course lecture, faculty meeting and pedagogical seminar, participate in curriculum development for the course, which includes course-wide assessments, and carry out research in their field of interest. Finally, the candidates we seek will have additional responsibilities for leading other instructors in constructing common exams and coordinating other course-wide assessments, organizing student-faculty interaction opportunities, field trips, and public outreach via special events and social media, and working with non-traditional students. Prior experience with such tasks is strongly preferred.

Frontiers of Science lecturers receive a competitive salary and benefits.

For more information on the program, please contact Natasha Bascoe at fos@columbia.edu or 212-853-1511.

Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2022 and will continue until the positions are filled.
