Assistant Professors (Tenure-Track), Urban Ecology
Department of Environmental Studies
New York University Faculty of Arts and Science

Location New York
Open Date Jul 27, 2022
Deadline Oct 01, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin September 1, 2023, subject to administrative and budgetary approval.

We are interested in innovative, interdisciplinary scholars whose research is in Urban Ecology, broadly conceived. The position will be housed entirely within the Department of Environmental Studies, but is part of a broader cluster of recruitment efforts in Transforming Ecologies in Urban Environments that spans the departments of Environmental Studies and Biology in this year's searches and may expand to other departments. A primary aim of the cluster is to create a network for scholars working in these areas to collaborate across NYU. More information about this cluster and the broader cluster initiative can be found here and here.

The successful applicant(s) will be interdisciplinary scholars with an excellent record of research and publishing who are committed to educating undergraduates majoring in Environmental Studies and eventual graduate students in the PhD program in Environmental Studies, which is under development. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, physical science, and policy backgrounds (e.g., environmental studies, Earth science, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography).

Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. by August 31, 2023, have an integrative research program that demonstrates the potential to be a leader in the field of Environmental Studies, and have proven ability to be an excellent teacher. Candidates should apply with a CV, a cover letter that includes the names of three referees who can be contacted for reference letters, two exemplary writing samples, a research and teaching statement, and a diversity and inclusion statement.  The diversity and inclusion statement offers applicants the opportunity to highlight their past, present, and future contributions to creating inclusive excellence, which is a cornerstone of the Faculty Cluster Initiative and a core commitment of the Department of Environmental Studies and New York University.

Please send your completed application by October 1st, 2022. All materials should be uploaded via Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/110020.
