TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Biology of the College of Natural Sciences, Río Piedras Campus, University of Puerto, is inviting highly qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in Ecology, effective on January 2, 2023. The position is open, but not limited, to candidates with research programs focused on Functional Ecology, Macroecology and/or the application of Big-Data to Ecology, with strong interests conducting research in the tropics, and that combines field, observational, and quantitative approaches into their teaching and research programs.

Requirements: 1) Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in Ecology (Functional Ecology, Macroecology, Big-Data in Ecology) or related field from an accredited university, 2) Post-doctoral research experience, 3) Strong publication record, in area of specialty, 4) Demonstrated ability to seek and obtain extramural funds, 5) Teaching experience using diverse technologies, 6) Availability to direct research projects, theses and dissertations, 7) Bilingual (Spanish and English) skills are desirable. Responsibilities: The new faculty member is expected to develop a strong research program supported with external funds; strengthen the course offering of the Department at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including teaching at all available teaching hours and using diverse technologies; provide mentorship for undergraduate and graduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) students; and participate in service activities at the level of the Department, University and beyond.

Documents required: 1) Intent letter briefly explaining the candidate’s strengths, 2) Curriculum Vitae, 3) Research statement (maximum 3 pages) describing research accomplishments, and short- and long-term research plans, 4) Teaching statement (maximum 3 pages) describing overall teaching philosophy and approaches to teaching under diverse scenarios, prior teaching experience, and approaches to mentoring minority undergraduate and graduate students from groups that have been historically underrepresented in science, 5) Official academic credentials and evidence of all degrees earned, 6) Names and contact information of at least three reference writers.
