Assistant Professor – Plant Ecology
The Biology Department of Nazareth College of Rochester, New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2023. This position entails responsibilities and opportunities in three programs: Biology, Environmental Science and Sustainability, and Toxicology. The department seeks candidates committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in the field of biology with emphasis on plant ecology, with strong understanding of plant biology and demonstrated experience successfully educating diverse populations of students. The successful candidate is expected to teach lecture and laboratory courses in Plant Biology, Ecology, introductory level biology courses, as well as other courses for biology majors as appropriate. In addition, the candidate will be expected to contribute to our liberal arts core curriculum through teaching and assessment, and to advise students in the Environmental Science and Sustainability and Biology Programs. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a student-centered research program that engages undergraduates, including possible participation in summer research activities, and furthers the candidate’s own research interests. The candidate will be expected to manage the Mary Soons McCarty greenhouse, a three-environment greenhouse - temperate, desert, and subtropical - that is used for education and research. Ability to teach environmental microbiology courses and/or sustainability courses is a plus.
