The Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences program (AES) at South Dakota Mines is seeking to fill a 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position related to Environmental Sciences at the Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice level. An earned Doctorate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have evidence in teaching at the university level and practical experience in their area of expertise. We seek candidates who will contribute to teaching a variety of courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs on topics such as global environmental change, biogeochemistry, NEPA compliance, and/or air quality. The candidate may also have an opportunity to develop new courses in their area of expertise for a planned undergraduate specialization in Environmental Sciences. This non-tenure track position will be primarily focused on teaching with opportunities for research and industry engagement. The desired start date for the position is August 2023.
The AES program is housed in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at South Dakota Mines. The program offers degrees at the bachelors, masters and PhD level with students specializing in either atmospheric or environmental sciences specializations. The program has an interdisciplinary focus, with faculty expertise including hydrometeorology, climate science and resiliency, wildfire meteorology, severe storm dynamics, mesoscale meteorology, numerical weather prediction, biology, aquatic ecology, and sustainability. We are seeking a new faculty member who can complement these areas of strength by having skills and expertise in environmental science.
