ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY
AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY, a selective, private, liberal arts institution invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology beginning late August 2023. A Ph.D. is expected; postdoctoral research experience and teaching experience is preferred.
TEACHING EXPECTATIONS: Duties typically include teaching 2 lectures and 2 labs each semester, along with a January term course. This load will include an upper-level general ecology lecture and lab for Biology majors, a team-taught introductory biology lecture and lab, a course in the successful candidate’s area of expertise, a non-majors’ course that examines the impact of science on society, as well as other courses based on the needs of the department and qualifications of the applicant. Having the ability to bring computational methods and/or large data set analyses into any and all of these courses, as well as in their research, is strongly desired.
RESEARCH EXPECTATIONS: While teaching is a major component of the position, productive research involving undergraduates is expected and is a long-standing tradition in the department. The university is situated in an area experiencing rapid growth in biomedical, biotech, agricultural, and environmental research, offering collaboration opportunities in various research areas. A research startup will be provided as well as access to extensive existing research equipment (over $1,500,000 in new purchases in the department over the last decade).
