The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applicants for an Assistant or Associate Scientist in Hydrology, Watershed Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field with an emphasis on improving our understanding of watershed processes in complex southeastern landscapes.

  • Permanent full time scientist position
  • Located at the Jones Center at Ichauway in Newton, GA
  • Position is 100% covered by the Jones Center, through the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation
  • Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The Jones Center is interested in an individual who can lead an interdisciplinary research program investigating user-inspired water resource issues in the southeastern coastal plain. The candidate should have a Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, and a proven track record of conducting field, lab, and/or modeling studies that focus on watershed dynamics at any scale. We are especially interested in candidates whose work considers the role of hydrologic connectivity among soils, groundwater, wetlands, streams, and rivers. Knowledge of soil hydraulics, subsurface geology, or karst systems is a plus. The candidate will be joining a collaborative research and education community, which includes other Center scientists, university collaborators, agency scientists, and private stakeholders. The ability to conduct translational research, apply findings to water management policy and priorities, and communicate with regional stakeholder groups is preferred. The Center is firmly committed to the co-production of knowledge and will facilitate and support such efforts.

Support for the position includes 12 months’ salary, medical and retirement benefits, laboratory and office space, and funding for startup, operating, graduate student and technician expenses.

The Center is located at Ichauway, a 29,000-acre ecological reserve in southwestern Georgia.  It has over 17,000 acres of mature fire-maintained longleaf pine forests, ~100 geographically isolated wetlands, and includes 18 miles of Ichawaynochaway Creek and ten miles of frontage along the Flint River.  The mission of the Center is to understand, to demonstrate, and to promote excellence in natural resource management and conservation on the landscape of the southeastern coastal plain of the United States.  The Center cooperates with several regional research universities, as well as numerous state and federal natural resource agencies.  Ichauway is a host site for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON).  More information can be found at www.jonesctr.org
