Job Details

The Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in Evolutionary Biology at the Assistant Professor rank. We seek highly qualified candidates who combine experimental and genetic/genomic approaches to address broadly relevant concepts in evolutionary biology. We welcome applicants who study any group(s) of organisms in any type of system. Qualified candidates should be prepared to direct an independent research program that will attract extramural funding, provide research training for graduate and undergraduate students, and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Faculty in Biology participate in the university-wide Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society (EEES) and the Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) graduate programs. These programs include investigators in Arts and Sciences, Geisel School of Medicine, and Thayer School of Engineering.  The Dartmouth life sciences research community is highly collaborative and utilizes a diverse array of approaches to investigate key processes at the molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecosystem levels.  Faculty in Biology are housed in the state-of-the-art Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center with access to many well-resourced multi-user research facilities. Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are supported by the Guarini School for Graduate and Advanced Studies, including their diversity and inclusion initiatives. In addition, we value applicants who have experience working with undergraduate researchers and who will encourage their involvement in ongoing research activities. Dartmouth-funded programs include Undergraduate Advising and Research (UGAR), Women in Science Program (WISP), E. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, and Academic Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE).

We are especially interested in applicants who can work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds and with different identities and attributes. Applicants should provide a statement that addresses how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This statement will be evaluated as part of the selection process.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field, an MD, or an equivalent degree. At least one year of relevant postdoctoral research experience is also required. Effective classroom teaching is essential for this position.
