The Department of Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor beginning August 1, 2024. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. Depending on qualifications, the appointee to this position may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring.
The ideal candidate for this position is a collaborative Ph.D. scientist with an established research program in molecular-, evolutionary-, conservation-, global change-, or disease ecology at the organismal, population, community, or ecosystem level. This individual will complement the biology department’s strengths and establish synergies with other science departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. Applicants should have demonstrated effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with experience working with, teaching, or mentoring a diverse student body, and those able to contribute to and foster diversity and inclusion efforts on campus and with respect to the biology curriculum are preferred. Responsibilities will consist of maintaining a vigorous and internationally visible research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, recruiting graduate students, and participating in department, college, and university service. The successful candidate will occupy lab space in the university’s new Hall of Science, a state-of-the-art facility that houses the biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, and neuroscience departments.
