Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Conservation/Ecological Health in the Context of Natural Resources Management, Environment, or Sustainability

The University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation, invites applications for a probationary or tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor/Full Professor, in the natural sciences fields of ecology of Natural Resources Management, Environment, or Sustainability. The appointment will commence on or before July 1, 2024, or as soon thereafter as possible. The successful candidates will become a member of the Natural Resources Institute Natural Resources Institute (NRI) in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The candidate will contribute to research, teaching, graduate student supervision, outreach, and administration within the NRI. The successful candidate will develop a teaching and research program in applied ecological health and/or conservation ecology related to natural resources management, environment, or environmental sustainability. There are many different research foci that could fill this requirement; some examples include impacts of anthropogenic development on wildlife or plant communities, impacts of climate change on biodiversity, Indigenous community-based environmental monitoring, impacts of habitat loss and fragmentation on biodiversity, or many other possible foci. The applicant must be well prepared to teach a course in Ecological Dimensions of Natural Resources Management, and other courses related to their areas of expertise. Service will be required both within the University and through various professional and public organizations linked to the candidate’s area of expertise.
We consider many research areas to fall under the banner of ecological health, including conservation biology, conservation ecology, applied ecology, field ecotoxicology, ecological applications, environmental management, and conservation, etc. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ecology, conservation biology, or a related field, and proven success in conducting research related to the proposed research area and in the areas of natural resources management or environmental sustainability. Success may be indicated in many ways, such as number and quality of journal publications, demonstrated influence on government or industry policy, contributions to and support sustainable communities, and a diversity of other evidence that the applicant has positively impacted academic knowledge and sustainable communities. Experience in teaching is expected.
