The Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST) is hiring a Field Technician position for the 2024 field season (March – September). The Field Technician will work with CREST’s Habitat Restoration Biologist to implement effectiveness monitoring of juvenile salmon habitat restoration projects and is a key part of the restoration team that completes floodplain restoration projects in the Lower Columbia River estuary.
Job Description
Conduct scientific data collection for restoration projects including but not limited to: juvenile salmon fish sampling, vegetation monitoring, water quality monitoring, photopoints, sediment accretion, and other biological surveys. Accurately collect, record, and complete QA/QC of data.
Job Scope
This is a temporary, part-time (15-35 hours per week), non-exempt, hourly position. The field season will run from approximately March – September 2024, with the busiest weeks (working up to 35 hours) being in Summer 2024. Pay range is $20-25 per hour.
Needed Skills and Experience

Experience in fisheries biology fieldwork and identification of Pacific Northwest flora.

Excellent driving skills; must possess a valid driver's license, maintain an acceptable driving record, and provide proof of current vehicle insurance.

Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions, push up to 75 pounds, lift up to 40 pounds, and regularly carry up to 35 pounds throughout a normal workday.

Flexibility with schedule, including the ability to start early, end late, and frequent short notice schedule changes.

Good interpersonal, communication, customer service, and time management skills.
Job Conditions
This is a physically demanding job that requires the ability to wear chest waders in knee to thigh-deep mud during hot weather, the ability to carry heavy equipment across difficult terrain, and work long days in adverse conditions. Working conditions entail collaboration within a small team, extensive driving, use of heavy sampling equipment, and working outside in varying weather conditions.
