The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES, www.cires.colorado.edu) at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks an ecologist who uses advanced remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems to study pressing questions related to ecological change and processes at regional-to-global scales. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have research interests in one or more such topical areas that include but are not limited to biodiversity change; land cover/land use change; ecosystem structure and function; and the mechanisms that underlie the responses of ecosystem processes to disturbance and climate. Novel quantitative methods and data-intensive approaches that use remote sensing, link spatial patterns and ecological processes at broad spatial and temporal scales, and address coupled human-natural systems are strongly encouraged. Candidates whose expertise complements that of existing CIRES and EBIO faculty and researchers in ecosystem biogeochemistry, wildfire ecology, microbial ecology, and community ecology are particularly encouraged to apply. Potential collaborations within CIRES centers and the larger Boulder community include the Niwot Ridge Long-term Ecological Research (LTER) site (https://nwt.lternet.edu/), the McMurdo Dry Valleys LTER site (https://mcm.lternet.edu/), Earth Science and Observation Center (ESOC; cires.colorado.edu/esoc), Earth Lab (earthlab.colorado.edu), the National Snow and Ice Data Center (https://nsidc.org/home), the Climate Innovation Collaboratory (CIL; https://earthlab.colorado.edu), Western Water Assessment (wwa.colorado.edu), UNAVCO/EarthScope, UCAR/NCAR, NOAA, and NEON.
